Azuki-Linked ANIME Token Launching on Ethereum This Month

The Animecoin Foundation announced it will launch its culture coin, ANIME, on Ethereum and Arbitrum this month.

Linked to popular NFT project Azuki, the Animecoin Foundation will issue a total of 10 billion ANIME tokens, nearly 77% of which will be circulating on day one.

The Foundation aims to use the token launch to “transform the anime ecosystem into a community-owned creative economy,” better aligning incentives for creators and fans of the growing industry—which the Animecoin Foundation suggested could reach $60 billion in 2030.

For decades, anime has shaped global culture – from art to fashion, music to gaming. What started as a niche subculture has evolved into the most passionate fandom in the world with over 1 billion fans. Yet these fans have remained passive consumers. Until now.

More than half of the total ANIME supply is earmarked for the Web3 community, led by Azuki, an early contributor to the Animecoin Foundation.

The Azuki community will receive 37.5% of the supply, or 3.75 billion tokens, all of which will be fully unlocked for trading at launch. An additional 13% is set aside for the “Community Cultivation” allocation, a bucket of tokens which will be controlled by ANIME token holders and the future AnimeDAO to “fund community incentives and initiatives.”

Other Anime related projects, users of web3 analytics platform Kaito, and some Arbitrum projects will receive a portion of the 2% of ANIME supply that is set aside for partner communities.

Though the ANIME token has been long anticipated, the official announcement helped spark a jump in the Azuki NFT collection. The project’s floor price, or the cheapest listed price for an asset on the marketplace, gained nearly 9% in the last 24 hours to 13.67 ETH or $41,505 according to NFT Price Floor.

Its companion collections Azuki Elementals and Beanz both jumped as well, gaining 9.6% and 7.4% respectively.

In March 2024, the Animecoin Foundation—in collaboration with Azuki—announced that it selected Arbitrum as a launch partner for AnimeChain, a blockchain using Arbitrum’s layer-2 solution to help “provide the infrastructure that enables the global anime network to live on-chain.”

Anime.com, a project built by Azuki on the AnimeChain testnet, opened its waitlist in September 2024. Azuki was launched in 2022 by Los Angeles-based Chiru Labs and is one of the most prominent and valuable Ethereum NFT projects.
